Memory a day #33 – Fire shows

Fire poi seems like a regional sport when you travel across Asia. Most places have some sort of performer whether they were an organized act or simply an amateur trying to provide some entertainment. It became part of the experience and a little bit expected after a while. Some of the best performers I saw was in Koh Tao, Thailand. They would throw the poi across the beach over the spectators heads, climb on top of each other with poi spinning in their hands and would even light travellers cigarettes, hanging our of their mouths, with their spinning poi. It’s a spectacular performance and never gets old. I watched the guys in Koh Tao almost every night of the four or five nights I was there.
