It’s really interesting to experience how highly the young generation in Asia regards foreigners. From their clothing preference to music selection and even their choice of cuisine, sometimes even treating who would be common folk back home as celebrities. Requests for pictures are rampant. The eagerness to start conversations are endless. And all the while we’re here to experience their culture. What a contradiction. While we try to learn them they try to be us. It really is a global world but it’s becoming America. In Thailand kids flock to McDonald’s after school. In Indonesia you hear cover songs of Maroon 5 and Adele. In Cambodia you watch a teen drive down the street blasting Tupac. It all seems so familiar but is it destroying the culture here? It’s hard to say if it is and whether it’s really a bad thing but it’s very interesting to witness.
